Papa Roach is an American rock band that has been melting faces since the mid-90’s with their hard rock sound. Here, MusicSnake Magazine put together a list of top 10 interesting facts you probably didn’t know about the band.
Number One: Papa Roach Used to Have a Trombone Player
For a very brief period in ’93, the band featured Ben Luther on trombone. This was very short-lived, as he was replaced by guitar player Jerry Horton.
Number Two: The Band is Named After Shaddix’s Step-Grandfather
Howard William Roatch was nicknamed Papa Roach by his family. Unfortunately, in ’06, Roatch committed suicide after learning that he had terminal cancer.
Number Three: The Band Hit It Big with Their First Single
Papa Roach’s first mainstream success came with the single from their second album and major label debut, Infest. Last Resort hit number one on the United States. Modern Rock chart and number three on the UK Singles chart. It remains Papa Roach top selling single internationally to this day.
Number Four: The Band Switched to an Independent Label
In ’10, Papa Roach ended their relationship with Geffen Records to sign with the independent Eleven Seven Records. Their first release on the label was Time for Annihilation, which featured re-workings of some of their previous songs.
Number Five: The Band Doesn’t Own the Rights to Their Songs
The band’s catalogue is represented by Downtown Music Publishing, which holds the right to license it out to whoever they want. In ’10, Geffen Records released a greatest hits album without Papa Roach’s knowledge or consent.
Number Six: Shaddix Hosted a TV Show
It’s true! He hosted a show called Scarred and featured extreme sports athletes sharing their wipeout stories. Shaddix hosted the MTV show for 2 seasons.
Number Seven: Papa Roach Music was Given the String Quartet Treatment
Vitamin String Quartet devoted an entire album to Papa Roach music. In ’06, they released Perfect Murder: Strung Out on Papa Roach on their own Vitamin Records label.
Number Eight: The WWE Used The Band’s Song as Their Theme
Before releasing The Paramour Sessions, the album’s first single, To Be Loved, was used as the WWE theme song. The song was used for 3 years from ’06 until ’09. To Be Loved was also used in the WWE video game in ’08, ’09 and ’10.
Number Nine: Shaddix Wrote a Song with Hinder
Over the years, the band has toured numerous times with Hinder. In that time, Shaddix became good friends with Hinder’s lead singer, Austin John. The two ended up writing and recording a song together.
Number Ten: Tony Palermo Has a Punk Rock Pedigree
When Tony joined Papa Roach in ’07, he was coming in with experience with a long list of bands under his belt. Besides playing drums with Unwritten Law at the time he was chosen to play with Papa Roach, he has also played with Ten Foot Pole, Pulley and Sixx: AM.
