John Lennon was a legendary singer, songwriter and peace activist. December 8th of this year will be the 39th anniversary of iconic musician and co-founder of The Beatles John Lennon’s assassination and death. Here, MusicSnake Magazine put together a list of top 15 facts you probably didn’t know about John Lennon.

Number One: John Lennon Didn’t Like the Sound of His Own Voice. Apparently, he was never happy with the way his voice sounded, and this is why the musician liked to double-track his records. He’s reported as once having asked producer George Martin, “Can’t you smother my voice with tomato ketchup or something?”

Number Two: Paul Goresh Was the Last Person to Take His Picture. John Lennon was signing an album for Mark David Chapman who would assassinate him when he was photographed by Paul Goresh.

Number Three: Lennon Was the Only Non-Vegetarian Beatle. George Harrison was the first Beatle to become a full-blown vegetarian, and Paul McCartney joined him a few years later. While Ringo Starr eventually became a vegetarian for health reasons rather than ethical reasons. John could never fully commit to stopping eating meat.

Number Four: John Was Originally Meant to Sing the Lead on “Love Me Do.” “Love Me Do” was The Beatles’ first single. Though Lennon sung the lead for many songs off of The Beatles’ first album, Paul was the one to sing lead on their first single.

Number Five: The Musician Was a Devout Fan of Monopoly. He loved to pass the time by playing Monopoly. The artist had his very own Monopoly set, and he would play in both hotel rooms and planes. JL loved the properties of Boardwalk and Park Place so much he didn’t mind sacrificing the entire game to get them.

Number Six: The Star Eventually Got Fed Up With His Fans. By the peak of The Beatles’ fame, he didn’t really like to play concerts with screaming fans anymore. He said, “Beatles concerts are nothing to do with music anymore. They’re just bloody tribal rites.”

Number Seven: John Lennon Practiced in the Bathtub. His first band, The Quarrymen, would often practice their songs in the bathroom. Lennon would often stand barefoot in the bathtub while they practiced.

Number Eight: The Singer Was Never Properly Satisfied With a Single Record. Another tidbit discovered while John was out with producer George Martin, he revealed to Martin that he would like to re-record every single song The Beatles ever recorded. When Martin asked him if “Strawberry Fields” was included in this list, Lennon replied, “Especially ‘Strawberry Fields’.”

Number Nine: His Last Run-In With Paul McCartney Was in April of ’76. The last time he hung out with McCartney was on April 24, 1976. They watched Saturday Night Live together in Lennon’s New York apartment

Number Ten: JL Was a Goody Two-Shoes Growing Up. He belonged to both the choir and the Boy Scouts as he was growing up. His singing career launched when the man was part of the boy’s choir at St. Peter’s Church in Liverpool. He was a member of the 3rd Allerton Boy Scout troop.

Number Eleven: John Lennon’s Favorite Lyric of All Time Is… When asked what his favorite lyric he ever wrote was, the musician had a very quick response. He said, That’s easy. All you need is love.

Number Twelve: Lennon Used a Psychic. When he and Yoko were together, they sometimes had a psychic as part of their stuff to help them with business deals. The pair paid their psychic the same that they paid their lawyers and accountants.

Number Thirteen: Ex-Beatle Used to Sleep in a Coffin. Ex-Beatles manager Allan Williams has reported that JL enjoyed sleeping in an old coffin Williams had in his coffee bar. Lennon could take very restful naps there.

Number Fourteen: The Legendary Singer Got LSD From His Dentist. The first time he used LSD, Lennon got it from his dentist, John Riley. Riley slipped some into Lennon’s coffee at a dinner party.

Number Fifteen: The Man Was Very Unconventional. He once said that he would rather commit suicide than try and look for a conventional job. Lennon said this long before he came famous as a singer for The Beatles.
