As the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates remains one of the most relevant figures in the tech industry and one of the most influential and richest people on the planet. However, despite the fact that the business magnate has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye, there are still some interesting facts that many people probably don’t know.

Number One: Bill Gates is a Bitcoin Supporter

As Bill Gates admits, someone once bought him Bitcoins as a birthday present. He speaks positively about cryptocurrencies: “Bitcoin is better than currency in that that you don’t have to be physically in the same place and, of course, for large transactions, currency can get pretty inconvenient.”

Number Two: Insane Property Taxes

Gates family pays $1 million every single year in property taxes alone. Impressive!

Number Three: He Donated Nearly $30 Billion

As of 2018, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation had given more than $38 billion to charity. The charity aims to eliminate hunger and poverty using advanced technology and by improving the education system.

Number Four: Bill Gates Made Sure He Was in Classes With Pretty Girls

We already mentioned that Gates made a useful program for his high school; however, he also made a useful program for himself around then. He was able to modify the school’s schedule so he was in classes with all the people (and pretty girls) he wanted.

Number Five: He Collects Porsches

In fact, Gates owns at least three Porsches. Gates owns a Porsche 911 Carrera, a Porsche 930, and a Porsche 959. The 959 was banned in the United States until 1999 when president Bill Clinton passed a law that exempted certain collectible automobiles from safety-related regulations.

Number Six: He Had an Almost Perfect SAT Score

Gates earned 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT. Though he enrolled in Harvard, he dropped out after just one year.

Number Seven: Gates Pays the Media

In what some might consider a pretty shady move, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation will often pay respected publications to publish articles advocating the foundation’s interests regarding policy. Though many of the foundation’s policies are positive, some might consider this practice to be dishonest.

Number Eight: He Double Dated With Steve Jobs

It’s true! Gates and Jobs double dated in the 1980s with whoever it was they were dating at the time.

Number Nine: He Doesn’t Answer His Phone

It’s true! According to an executive at Microsoft, Gates earned a reputation of being unable to reach by phone when he was at Microsoft.

Number Ten: Gates Lives in a Theme Park

Bill Gates called his mansion Xanadu 2.0, and it’s no wonder he calls it that because it took seven years and $63 million to build. Xanadu 2.0 features a swimming pool that spans 60 feet, not to mention a locker room with showers and tubs. The property also houses a 2,500 square-foot gym, a giant dining room, and 24 bathrooms.

Number Eleven: He Paid $30 Million for a Manuscript

Even though it was an original Leonardo da Vinci manuscript, that’s still a lot of money. Gates paid $30.8 million for da Vinci’s Codex Leicester.

Number Twelve: He Makes More Than $20 Million Every Day

Gates earns about $250 every second, which means he earned $15,000 every minute. He earned thousands of dollars while you were reading this article. How about that?

Number Thirteen: Not All of His Predictions Came True

Gates has made many bold predictions that have never come true. He once claimed that PCs would never need more than 640kb of memory, and in 1989, he told Forbes that Microsoft would never make a 32-bit operating system.

Number Fourteen: Bill Gates Sold His First Computer Program for $4,200

He was 17 years old when he sold his very first computer program to his high school for $4,200. The program was a timetabling system.

Number Fifteen: He Uses Super Advanced Technology

In his home, at least. Guests who enter Xanadu 2.0 are given a pin that activates sensors in every room to change the lighting and temperature according to the pin holder’s preferences.

Number Sixteen: He Has Been Arrested More Than Once

In fact, Gates has been arrested three times. Gates was first arrested in 1975 for driving without a license. Two years later he was arrested for running a stop sign, and in 1989, he was arrested on the suspicion of drunk driving.
